Environmental Practices

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Our operation transforms recyclable waste into recycled raw materials, actively contributing to the Circular Economy.

RECYCLING

In 2024, we processed over 163,000 tons of recyclable materials. Our work helps preserve natural resources, reduce carbon emissions, and minimize waste.

INDUSTRIAL DECARBONIZATION

According to the BIR, producing steel from recycled raw materials instead of iron ore results in a 16% reduction in energy consumption and a 58% decrease in CO₂ equivalent emissions. In 2024, our supply of recycled ferrous raw materials prevented the emission of approximately 142,403 tons of CO₂ equivalent in steel production (based on data from the same institute).

RECOVERY FACILITY

In addition to ferrous metals, all materials from our Shredder processing are treated at our Recovery Facility — the first in Latin America dedicated to this activity. Non-ferrous metals, plastics, and other materials are separated and sent for recycling or energy recovery.

LANDFILL DIVERSION

In 2024, 90.2% of the waste we processed was diverted from landfills. These materials were properly managed through recycling and recovery. The remaining 9.82%, sent to final disposal, consisted mainly of soil.

TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENT

We continuously improve our processes by investing in technology, innovative solutions, and strategic partnerships to enhance material circularity. In 2024, we invested nearly R$20 million in technology and operational efficiency to improve the quality of raw materials for our clients and add value to the recycled materials.

WASTE GENERATED IN OPERATIONS

We also manage the waste generated by our own operations. Materials contaminated with oil are sent for blending and co-processing; used oil is sent for re-refining; automotive batteries are forwarded to manufacturers through reverse logistics; and recyclable materials are sold to recycling companies.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

In 2025, the electricity consumption of our facilities transitioned to the Free Energy Market, and 100% is now sourced from renewable energy.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

All new machinery acquisitions prioritize technologies that optimize energy consumption. Our Shredder, for example, features an optimized drive on its main motor. In 2024, we invested over R$5.7 million in the acquisition of modern equipment that reduces diesel consumption.

WATER AND EFFLUENTS

With a responsible approach to water usage, we have cisterns and use reclaimed water for activities that do not require potable water. The material handling and maintenance areas are paved with concrete, directing water to oil-water separators to ensure proper effluent treatment.
